Korea's famous winter delicacies

Hot, spicy dishes such as kimchi, braised chicken jjimdak or spicy stewed tofu are always loved by Koreans on cold days.

In the winter, Korean dishes are often made with hot spices like red chili sauce, ginger, garlic and sesame oil. When visiting the country on winter days, visitors can enjoy the following dishes.

Kimchi

Kim Chi is one of the dishes that make up the popularity of Korean cuisine. The pungency and a hint of sweetness from fermented vegetables will warm people in the cold of winter. In Korea, there are hundreds of types of kimchi but the most common are still pickled cabbage, red peppers, radishes and ingredients like garlic, ginger, and green onions. After salting, cabbage is stored at a low temperature for fermentation. This dish is often served with rice and many other Korean dishes.


Jjimdak

Jjimdak is made by stewing chicken, onions, potatoes, carrots, chili, noodles mixed with other spices. The special feature of jjimdak lies in the spicy sauce made of corn syrup, soybean oil, sugar, pepper and gochujang. To enjoy this delicacy, you can visit famous restaurants like Andong and Bongchu. 

Soondubu Jjiage

 The spicy taste of pepper and kimchi is an attraction of spicy tofu stew towards Koreans especially on cold days. The stewed tofu (soondubu jjigae) is made from ingredients like tofu, seafood, onions, zucchini and eggs. Guests can enjoy this dish at all restaurants and food stalls in any city of kimchi.
